Art of Dr. Neeta Yogendra Paharia

Ved Prakash Bhardwaj

It happened rarely that an artist not only creating art but living art also, Neeta Yogendra Paharia doing that. Live and art are two sides of the coin of life for her.  Connecting with her surroundings with a deep attachment, she brings art into her own life. She not only creates pictures but also lives them. This is why the beat of life can be felt in his paintings. Geometrical forms and life of common women are the main subjects that have different sheds of local life.
Chambal and Bundelkhand (located at Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh in India) are considered as rugged areas. Life is also not considered easy there. It is a different matter that in spite of all the odd circumstances, the colors of art are deeply embedded in the life there. Neetaji has studded that life and art practices in local life and then transforms that experience in her creation.   She introduces us to such a world in her pictures that we often do not even see. And that's why we don't even understand that.

In her recent exhibition at Delhi's AIFACS Gallery, women's life is at the center of the paintings that she has displayed. By the way, women have always been at the center of art. All artists have portrayed female life but usually, its appearance on canvas is limited to beauty only. Beauty is only one aspect of a woman but she also has her own life, she has her own struggles. The subject of Neetaji's paintings is feminine but not in a feminist fashion but like an imperative. In these paintings, various roles of the woman in life are composed as a wife, mother, sister, daughter, sakhi, etc.
Some paintings also have music and dance postures. Generally, we believe that music and dance do not have a place in the lives of people in rural or underdeveloped societies, but this is not true. It is traditionally common for Indian families to play veena or sitar and dance to the female. It is a different matter that today we are forgetting him. The region of Bundelkhand and Chambal is culturally very rich which Neetaji portraits with different visions. She uses the references of the local life of Chambal and art forms and adopted color and patterns which most of the people like in that area.

There is another beautiful aspect of Neetaji's art is an abstraction. The impressive and beautiful combination of figures with abstract is rarely seen. In the early stages of her art journey, she created abstract paintings and then came into the world of figures. But her figures have an abstract impression, even in the background she uses color mixing and bust stroke gives an abstract impression.  The human figures are the main subject but they also created in geometrical form. She uses different geometrical forms in different parts of the painting, not only in the background but as a part of the human body also which gives a new meaning to the painting.
